Yoga Isn't What You Think
I started constantly practicing yoga my junior year in college at Barry University (fun fact, the first time I ever practiced yoga was with my dad via a yoga tape). I took the class as an elective but I absolutely fell in love with it. I learned how to feel my body; how to meditate properly—I used to fall asleep; how to set intentions for the day & focus through. Yoga is a union of the mind, body & soul.
Recently I began posting a few yoga videos & pictures because I’ve realized how many people think yoga is what it’s not:
You don’t have to be flexible.
Yoga is definitely a strengthening workout, it’s much more than stretching.
Men can practice yoga as well.
Advance poses & inversions are not necessary to prove how often you practice.
It’s not evolved around sex.
You don’t have to learn sanskrit to practice.
There are many more myths, but those six facts above are what I received the most questions about via DMs as I began posting in my FB & IG stories.
Once upon a time I was against posting yoga videos for two reasons:
I loved my practice because it’s just that, my practice. I didn’t want to focus on practicing just to film for others. Now, I want to be a part of educating others more about healing via yoga & learning their inner selves. I try to film every other day, but no promises, sometimes I just roll out of bed & onto my mat!! lol
It’s hiiigghhlyyy sexualized. I don’t think any further explanation is needed here. Will the constant practice increase your flexibility & be noticed in the bedroom, absolutely BUT that should NOT be your intention. I actually clip a few of my videos to avoid the pervs entering my DMs but now I just block them.
If you’re interested in learning more about yoga or practicing with me in Miami (we’ll be 8 feet apart… yes, I said 8 lol), contact me! I’d be honored to help you learn yoga the way I did, which was internally. Learning how to approach my mat, setting an intention & channeling my inner self has been the ultimate achievement of my practice.
I’m more spiritual than religious but I came across a scripture via Jalen Hurts’ IG page: John 13:7 - You don't understand now what I am doing, but someday you will. I’ve always known & understood this but seeing it in words was different & it explains my number one reason of practicing yoga… accepting & releasing..
