Hurricane Season- It’s Showtime!

There is a season for everything, and Hurricane Season has been right on schedule. So, preparation is in full effect. If you are in a hurricane-prone area, preparation and budgeting are key! Hurricanes are just as unpredictable as any other weather, but it is better to be safe than sorry. I must admit, I have definitely picked up the South Florida culture of relaxing when a hurricane is in motion but that hasn’t stopped my preparation!

Follow these tips to make sure prepped for success… or a disaster -__- lol… just keep reading:

Budget.

Budgeting is a great practice for life. Unfortunately, many people do not. However, budgeting for weather-related incidents has been a lifesaver for many. Even a small budget will make an enormous difference when it comes to supplies needed before/during/after any natural disaster.

Get Covered.

Make sure your insurance policy covers hurricane damage. Come on, can you trruullyyy predict the damage? Again, better safe than sorry!

Home Sweet Home.

Home is your safe place oorrr is it as safe as you make it? Consider reinforcing your windows, doors, and roof. It may cost some money upfront, but it can save a lot in potential damage…which takes us back to…get covered!

Stock Up on Essentials.

Before hurricane season knocks on your door (or when it knocks on your door for my Floridians), it's time to stock up on supplies. Water, flashlights, batteries, first aid kits, non-perishables, etc., anything you can get your hands on… again…befooorrreeee the Hurricane! Get ahead by jumping on sales and discounts, just to have it available & ready. If you can get a generator, do so. Even if the hurricane dissipates, these supplies will come in handy. The rain and the wind can still be destructive.

Evacuation Plan

An evacuation plan may seem obsolete but seeking out shelter won’t hurt. Research nearby shelters and map out evacuation routes. This is usually involved with budgeting, so set aside funds for travel and accommodation.

Take it Easy

Wanna make this transition easy? I’m 100% sure no hurricanes would do the trick but since that may not be possible, review what was done during your last hurricane or last hurricane scare and determine what was missed. The more we acknowledge & learn, the more prepared we can be. Adjust the strategies for the next season based on the previous seasons. It’s going to happen…hurricanes, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms all of it. Whichever one you have to prepare for, take the same approach…do everything you can to prepare (before the hurricane) & be safe!
