Spring Clean Your Make-Up

It’s time! It is the season of spring cleaniiinngg! Spring is a sign of new beginnings, and what's a better way to welcome it than to update your makeup bag, drawer &/or products?! I finally took the time to do this before travel & it was needed—see video above!

Take these seven steps to get a better makeup routine that will reflect on your skin.

Gather All Products

When we say, take everything out of the bag/drawer, we mean EVERYTHING! Get all of the makeup products from the closet, bathroom drawer and anywhere else you may have a stash. These deeply buried items are probably expired & may need to be thrown away, others may just need to be wiped down. So make sure you’re ready to examine each item.

Wipe It Away

Everything needs to be cleaned, from the drawer down to your travel/personal makeup bag & each item. Use a non-toxic surface cleaner to clean and disinfect the areas. I use All Clear surface cleaning wipes.

Expired Products

If you are a makeup junkie, there is a high chance you will find a lot of long-forgotten products. Using expired makeup products can possibly irritate your skin and put you at risk of a breakout. To check if your item is expired, look at the label and search for a small jar with a number inside. That’s the amount of months the product should be kept after its first use. I set reminders on my phone to avoid forgetting about the expiration months. If I use mascara daily, I throw away after the desired three months, if I’m wearing lashes more, I throw away after six months.

Shop

The best part about throwing out those expired products is shopping! But don’t get carried away, only purchase new products for those items threw away & actually use! I purchase new Beauty Blenders every six months & keep a close eye on my mascaras, so I usually stock up on these.

Brushes and Sponges

If you have never cleaned your sponge and brush, then you are in for a surprise. Most people just quickly dust off the brush and slightly wet the sponge, then call it clean. If that’s you, you are going to be shocked at the amount of dirt that comes out when you do a thorough cleaning. Get your facial cleanser & cleeaannn your brushes/sponges. You’ll be amazed at the actual color of your bra/sponges! Lol

Organize Makeup Products

Now that you have all of your products laid out, expired products thrown away & all containers are cleaned, re-organize everything! To avoid the problem of hoarding useless makeup products (again), try efficiently organizing them. Try keeping all makeup in one place but separate categorically. You know, brushes with brushes, lipsticks with lipsticks, and etc. If possible, store your brushes and sponges in a covered container which will protect them from dust.

Have Fun

We know this process can be dreadful but it’s necessary, so find a way to have fun with it. I always end up testing a few items, before I throw them out. Which can be tough because sometimes I want to keep them all! Lol
